How to Change Stress to Positive Energy?
Panelists/Speakers/Moderators: Mary Stells, Greg Hutchins, Joseph A., L.R., K.R., Dr. Trudy Hu. More panelists/participants are joining us.
Something Important That Every Business Owner or HR Manager Needs to Know?
What are the characteristics of healthy workers and toxic workers? (Toxic workers can be the most "healthy-looking" and "trustworthy-looking" people with "star quality" in your company.)"
How do toxic workers muster power, engage turf monopoly and win over your favor and trust?
How does an organization become sick in productivity but still suffer from resource drainage?
How to identify the cause of an organization's illness and to provide effective interventions?
Bad money drives away good money. Cancerous cells deprive good cells of nutrition and degrade good cells to malfunction.
It is your choice to become a wise business owner or a good manager.
Something Important You Need to Know?
USA ranks 37th in health quality and Americans spend $4,000-$6,000 per person per year on health care expenses. A small country, Oman, spends $334 per person per year on health and ranks 8th in the world.
In 1999, medical research showed 3/4 of the American population has a diagnosable chronic disease.
In 1997, national survey indicated 2/3 of the American population take prescription or over-the-counter drugs.
According recent research, 2/3 of the American adult population have obesity.
Diabetes, asthma, depression and cancer are on the rise. The age of the infected population is becoming younger.
The most recent Newsweek (Jan. 2010) reported that anti-depressants do not work.
Americans give health care industry about $350 per person per year or total 8 billion dollars for its pure profit.
Bad insurance companies suffocate good insurance companies. Bad insurance companies hire lowly-qualified employees and sell the seemingly low-cost plans to the government and companies, and then they absorb the sponsors' money and expand the low-quality/high cost monopoly by poorly-qualified, desperate but easily-manipulated providers. There is no supervision, no accountability, or no internal and external auditing from the government and businesses. No wonder the deficit is growing and the service is declining.
Date: 02/13/10 (Sat.)
Location: TBD
Fee: $65 per person registration before 02/11/10, snack and dinner are included.
On-Site Registration Fee: $75 per person.

12/18/09 (Friday) Successful Career Journey Round Table Discussion Report
Topic: Career Journey from Government Jobs to Private Industries, Academia to Corporations, Engineers/Professionals to Managers, from the Valley to the Peak, or Vice Versa
Feedback from a few panelists/participants:"Thank you for inviting me to participate in your evening of discussion about work! I was very impressed by the thoughtfulness of everyone's comments and participants' resilience in the face of the current uncertainty in the workplace. You were an especially impressive facilitator in the way that you were able to pull together into a single statement the comments of two or more individuals. It was a well spent evening for me! Thanks!"
"Thank you for organizing the event tonight, it was a nice get together to share each others experiences. We may all be a little pessimistic, but those in history who could see a storm coming and prepared for it survived. Those who didn't were taken by surprise. The difficult part is whether the signals are for real or not."
"That was a nice evening.... Thanks for the interesting evening."
"Thanks for arrange the meeting like CASPA. Keep up the good work."
Discussion report includes the comparison between American companies and Asian companies, the factors of their rise and fall, financial and career outlooks for many professions. It is available for members or new members. Please send in a check of $30 to become a new member and to receive many benefits or send an email to Chair@caspa-portland.org for inquiry.

Certificate of Appreciation from Mercy Corps
"On behalf of the survivors of the Sichuan Earthquake we serve in China, thank you for the wonderful gifts you raised for Mercy Corps's relief efforts there. We are so grateful for your time, effort, and enthusiasm in encouraging your co-workers to contribute, and for Intel's matching contributions!
We also very much appreciate the increased awareness in your community which your fundraising activity generated about the problems and needs in the aftermath of this terrible natural disaster in China, and about Mercy Corps' program to help there. Please be assured that the funds you raised will be wisely and promptly used to meet critical needs in the earthquake-devastated region and they will make a positive difference in the lives of those most in need there.
Mercy Corps' mission is to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression. We rely heavily on the donations and fundraising efforts of concerned individuals such as you. Thank you for being an important partner in our shared mission and for carrying out Gandhi's inspirational charge to, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."
Mercy Corps would love to partner with you again in the future. Please contact us for any assistance we may provide in that regard.
Sincerely, Tracie Weitzman, August 8, 2008"

Report on Political Incorrect Round Table Discussion:
The Round Table Discussion on 4/12 was full of laughter, insights, sharing, and friendship. We need to thank our facilitators for their insightful presentation/sharing, and funny pictures. We also are grateful to old and new members' continuous support.
To list our facilitators' topics by sequence:
1. Greg Hutchins: "What Got You Here Won't Get You There"
Greg gave us wonderful reflections and contrast about what worked and what did not. He also shared many funny real-life stories in his career and personal lives.
2. Bessie Lam: "Difference Among Chinese, Chinese American, American Chinese, and Americans"
Bessie gave us lots of fun comparision between German and Chinese. Very interesting and insightful.
3. Mark Chen: "Hilarious Signs in Chinese-English Translation"
Now we all know that Chinese-style English translation is full of humor and innovation.
Dried Fruit Area is translated into "Fuck The Fruits Area" and many funny ones can crack you up for hours. Fortunately, it is "Fruits" not people/country with guns that the translation was messed up with, otherwise, it will trigger WWIII or WWIV out of silly translation and misunderstanding.
4. Erwin Grellmann: "Migration To Oregon"
Erwin educated us about what happened in 1837 and the history of early American immigrants. There are many similarities among immigrants of various backgrounds. I loved his "keep Oregon beautiful" message. Oregon is a paradise to me. We can not afford to "trash" or "pollute" it like any other places on earth. We can not run away from our problems like any historical immigrant groups in the past unless we want to jump into the ocean (very humorous).
5. Philip Chen: "Career and Personal Growth Sharing. Compare the Cultures Between Taiwan and China"
Philip was very busy and he still spent his precious Sat. afternoon to share with us his career advancement and risk-taking. He also shared his cultural views about Taiwan and China.
6. Yun Ling: "Traditional Solid Chinese-American's Virtues and Good Deeds"
Yun demonstrated solid, humble virtues, good deeds, and decency. We did not have enough time for him and the participants to continue the interactions due to time limit.
----------------------------------
I liked 4/12 event very much.
1. Speakers did not have much burden. Everyone seemed having fun.
2. Participants signed up voluntarily. No pressure for anyone.
3. People felt comfortable speaking their own languages and asking questions without worrying about being rude or politically correct.
4. Mark's photo presentation was hilarious. There should have more time for people to elaborate the translation differences and why those translations became funny English.
5. There were much contrast and similarity between American and Chinese cultures, Chineses and Taiwanese cultures, Native Taiwanese and Out-of-Province cultures, and early American and current American immigrant cultures.
6. It is wonderful to see people from different ethnicities and cultures blended in together, spoke honestly and poked fun with one another. We found that our Chinese facilitators are very "Americanized" and our Caucasian facilitators are very Asian-like. We are a group of good people with similar virtues and traits, even though we have different skin colors and cultural backgrounds. As usual, people hesitated to talk initially and did not want to leave around 4:55pm.
7. There will be no indoor meeting from now until Oct. Good suggestion from Erwin and Phil.
8. It was a perfect event. Thank you and everyone for this fun success.
9. We appreciated that some members invited their adult children to come. Everyone wants to have more similar meeting/format in the future. We need more volunteers to come forward.
10. Some presentation materials will be uploaded into CASPA-Portland@YahooGroups.com and please sign up to continue online discussion.
We welcome everyone from various ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to join us.

Response From Bethany Neighborhood (1/23/08):
We, as a community, need to plan for our real estate future (our biggest investment) and our children's education in advance.
We are a group of contributing professionals to the society and Beaverton School District. The decision-making process is not open and transparent and most of all, the communication is poorly done. The majority of the families in these neighborhood were not informed about the sudden last-minute change until late November, 2007 by a piece of flyer only 3 hours before the meeting.
There is a strong need for private schools and a voucher system for residents to provide better investment and education in our future generations.
Beaverton New School (Brugger) Boundary Information:
From Beaverton School District (1/24/08):
The boundaries were presented and finalized by the superintendent on Jan. 14, 2008. You can see the boundary report online: www.beaverton.k12.or.us then click on the boundary story on front page. There are live links to the superintendent's report and other boundary materials.
The implementation plan will be occurring late winter and spring.
Maybe we are silent but we are not weak. We are respectful toward authorities but we can not accept manipulative power play from authorities or interest groups, either.
We thank you for your understanding.
